SFAbooks.com is unlike any website in our portfolio. This site was created before the Site Revision company was formed.
The Objective
Created by Josh Kryzak, Co-owner and Project Coordinator for Site Revision, Inc., the site was developed to provide the students of Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas a forum for buying and selling textbooks. The site also serves as a forum for rating professors at the university. Before the site was developed, Mr. Kryzak wanted the following features:
- Intuitive user interface
- Easy sign-up process that verifies email addresses
- The ability to add, edit, and remove book listings
- Easy searching capabilities
- Minimal site administrator involvement
- Clean, fresh design
The Tools
PHP and MYSQL technologies met the requirements of this dynamic website. PHP is a widely-used general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for web development. The MySQL database server is the world's most popular open source database. MySQL is an attractive alternative to higher-cost, more complex database technology. The technologies easily handle the demands of the SFAbooks.com website. All books listed, all registered users, and all professors listed are organized using this technology.
The Results
SFAbooks.com is still used by students at SFASU. Since the site requires minimal maintenance, it can provide students with invaluable information at virtually no expense. SFAbooks.com has been featured in several publications and continues to grow with each semester.
